The couplet reading “Borrow the breeze and feel the freedom, while borrow the moon and add the brightness; enjoy the flowing water when your spirit dances to the rhythm, while appreciate the mountain when your heart longs for peace and tranquility.”
The couplet reading “Borrow the breeze and feel the freedom, while borrow the moon and add the brightness; enjoy the flowing water when your spirit dances to the rhythm, while appreciate the mountain when your heart longs for peace and tranquility.”
The couplet is hung on Zhaoyin Pavilion, with the upper inscription reading “Mid-Summer of Bing-ZiYear” and the lower reading “Presented by Zhong Guanlin of Kaohsiung, Taiwan”. The white cursive script in a black background can be categorized as the contemporary “Retired Cadre Style”, which is characterized with adequate skills but poor artistic ingenuity. The couplet must have been written by a peripheral calligrapher, who was ashamed of autographing on the couplet. Similar to the couplet “As the mountain stands tall, it connects the sky; As the river flows long, it merges the sea deep” in ShangaoShuichang Pavilion, this one has faulty layout where the lower inscription is too closer to the edge. As a famous one, the couplet “Borrow the breeze and feel the freedom, while borrow the moon and add the brightness; enjoy the flowing water when your spirit dances to the rhythm, while appreciate the mountain when your heart longs for peace and tranquility” can oftentimes be seen in places of interest.
