The plaque of “Yuyan Academy”
The plaque of “Yuyan Academy” is hung above the lintel on the first floor of Yuqing Building. The inscription on the top reads “The First Month of Spring of Ren-Chen Year in Jiajing Period” and on the bottom it reads “Written by Zhao Yesui of Meixi”. While the inscriptions are cursive script, the four characters of “Yuyan Academy” in Chinese are regular-cursive script. Written in gold against a red background, the handwriting is based on the school of Yan Zhenqing, featuring bold and imposing strokes, rigorous and square structure as well as a vigorous and awe-inspiring style.
