Wenchang Temple

Wenchang Temple is 10 meters long. It is said when the Ming learned scholar Zhan Ruoshui visited Yuyan Academy and enjoyed beautiful sights of plum blossoms in Luogang, he found the academy had perfect ‘fengshui’ that could bless and benefit his offspring if a burial site was chosen there, so he wanted to buy a piece of vacant land on the left of the academy (current location of Wenchang Temple) for his future grave. Zhong clansmen believed the land was with good ‘fengshui’ and their forefather Zhong Yuyan was enshrined in the academy, so they didn’t agree to sell the land; but considering the power and influence of minister Zhan Ruoshui, they built Wenchang Temple here to enshrine Wenchang God and turn down his request. In front of Wenchang Temple stands Tianqu Yunlu Memorial Arch. The two stone carvings of “Yuping” and “Shuyu” beside Wenchang Temple were made in the Qing.
