Shangao Shuichang Pavilion
Shangao Shuichang Pavilion
Zhong Fuchang, the great grandson of Zhong Yuyan, refused to work for the Yuan government, so he resigned his position and went back to his hometown. He built Shangao Shuichang Pavilion and Zhaoyin Pavilion, renovated the statue of Zhong Yuyan and formed a poetry society in Yuyan Academy. The four characters “Shan Gao Shui Chang (literally ‘high mountains and long rivers’)” on the plaque were written by the Ming learned scholar Zhan Ruoshui to encourage people of the Zhong clan to study hard. (The current plaque is rewritten by Zhan Yan, the grandson of Zhan Ruoshui’s 14th generation). The stone inscription is a poem in praise of beautiful sight of “Snowy Plum Blossoms in Luogang” and its profound culture, which was produced by the famous official Zhang Zhidong in the late Qing during a visit to Luofeng Temple when he held an office in Guangdong.
