Yuyan Hall

Built on the two-storey Yuqing Lou, Yuyan Hall is mainly meant for enshrining the forefather of the Zhong Clan. There is a special architectural form- “seven-eave dripping water”. As the name suggests, the “seven-eave dripping water” is composed of seven eaves of Yuqing Lou. It originated from a story that Zhong Yuyan had saved the life of the 3rd prince, so the latter asked artisans to rebuild Luokeng Abode based on the imperial palace’s layout of “eight-eave dripping water”. To observe ancient ritual system and express the gratitude for Zhong Yuyan, the prince asked artisans to use “seven-eave dripping water”. The layout of “seven-eave dripping water” is still in use today despite renovations in different periods of time.
